We first made our acquaintance with Jeff McAlpine in the Spring of 2020. My wife and I had just moved to Waynesville in March. We had several things that needed correcting in our house. Being familiar with NEXTDOOR, an online social neighborhood we joined it to canvass for leads.
I saw both recommendations for his service and a question from Jeff, himself, asking for assistance on gutters, as it was beyond his scope. I have encountered too many contractors / handymen over my life that claimed to be a master of everything that I was intrigued by someone who admitted that others did certain things better. It was a refreshingly honest viewpoint.
I contacted Jeff to begin the fixes on our 68 year old home. I found out that the projects that Jeff and his team do is of excellent quality.
We started with replacing broken attic stairs and installing new combination screen / storm doors. In each instance the work was done with extremely high quality and on or ahead of schedule. Jeff does each job with pride and excellence.
The team then removed an old eyesore of a carport that both had outlived its usefulness and was encroaching on our new neighbor's property. He was able to remove it with a short notice due to the neighbor's sudden need to put up a fence. He was able to accommodate us and have it out in just a few days.
During these other projects, we discussed with Jeff the idea of building a deck out front. Our steps to both doors were old concrete and brick structures that were original to the house. They would be a potential safety hazard in winter weather conditions. Jeff took the initiative and discussed several options. He then designed what we can only describe as our dream deck. It is roughly 35' by 12' and provides us easy access to both doors on the front of the house. He even designed the stairs to make them easier, safer and more comfortable for us to use.
Several recommendations were made regarding the construction and appearance. We are glad we accepted them. The quality of the construction was similar to furniture making. Each step was methodical with precise measurements and subsequent installation. The Town of Waynesville Inspector visited at each major project point and passed us with flying colors. The deck was built strong enough for us to use as the foundation for an addition to the house if the desire or need ever arose.
The team finished with an excellent, multi-coat paint job (including non skid additives). It would be an understatement for us to say we like the deck and the quality that went into. We enjoy it for so many reasons.
The final project was resealing our aged blacktop driveway and installing a gravel parking strip next to the drive. This was also done with the highest possible quality and greatly improved the appearance of our house.
In closing, you can not go wrong in hiring Jeff and his team. You will get work of the highest quality with top grade materials and craftsmanship. Because they do such outstanding work, McAlpine Creations is, as you would expect, very busy. Don't let this stop you from engaging their services. They are definitely worth waiting for if you have to do so.
